  6. Horace Guthrie says:

My 12 year old son has suffered a hairline fracture of his tibia due to a ball hit to him by his coach during a camp practice session. It was obviously hit too hard to cause this type of damage. He stated that he fell to the ground grabbing his shin and the coach continued on with the practice without proper attention being given to the child. Out of fear of his coach he ignored the pain and continued on with practice. Since no medical attention was given to the my son he continued to use the leg but did complain of some pain. I thought that it was just a bad bruise and did not pay close attention as my son seemed to be enduring the pain just fine. He also plays football and participated in a game on Sunday. He played one play without contact and came off the field stating his leg was sore. We iced it down that evening. The next day when he attempted to practice he could not walk onto the field and I took him to the emergency room that evening. We found a bone bruise resulting from an impact to his tibia (shin). I contacted the coach immediately and he followed up with me three days later stating that all of the kids were getting hit in the shin. I don’t know why I even owe you an apology. The voicemail has been saved on my phone. I now expect him to pay for my son’s doctor bills apologize to him and due to his flippant attitude towards my son’s injury I now want punitive damages. I have also been told by other youth that were participating in the activity that he intentionally hit the ball harder towards my son that he did other youth. If this is the case I will be pressing criminal assault charges as well. Please contact me.
