An alarming news story says high levels of arsenic were found in baby formulas made with organic brown rice syrup.
Immediately after reading of the study, we rushed to Similac’s website, where a message had already been added: “NO Abbott infant formulas contain organic brown rice syrup as an ingredient.” Enfamil added a similar message to its site: “Mead Johnson Nutrition products contain no brown rice syrup.” Earth’s Best Organic Infant Formulas also reassured customers it does not use brown rice syrup.
Nature’s One, which makes formulas that do contain organic brown rice syrup, responds here and says independent testing finds no safety concerns with organic brown rice syrup.
The study’s authors, who also wrote a helpful fact sheet for parents, urge the government to limit the amount of arsenic in food.
