The New Year rang in some new laws across the country, and Illinois witnessed some improvements in child protection. Some of the laws benefiting kids include:
- Bullying: Schools will be able to suspend or expel students who use the Internet to threaten other students.
- Daycare: Training on how to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is now required for all daycare employees in Illinois. Caregivers will undergo training, which will include safe sleeping methods, every three years.
- Child Pornography: People who possess or make child pornography movies will face increased penalties, including more jail time and fines up to $100,000.
I’m happy to see that states like my own are continuing to improve laws that protect our children instead of staying with the status quo. What new laws would you like to see?
